Mohegan Sun

These 3 day events confuse me. It also ticks me off that the final rounds are going to be aired on FOX earlier in the day. William will be at work and will miss it unless I tape it. This means that IF (and it's a big IF at this point) the bull riding episode of In Harm's Way airs tomorrow afternoon as the PBR said it would last week, I won't be able to tape it. Guess worse things happen in life, but this jumping around and making me find bull riding on TV is getting really old.

Now. About round 2. Early on, a rider fell off the side of his bull, his hand was obviously hung in the bull rope which was the only thing keeping the cowboy on. He was still hung up after 8 seconds, and finally fell all the way off around 10 with his hand still stuck in the rope for a few bounces. The rider was scored 83.something anyway! Looking at the scores from last night, I see that Marchi was scored 83.something for his ride. Now. I'd be willing to bet any lottery earnings I may win in my lifetime, that Guilherme was not hanging off the side of his bull, hung in his rope, for the final 3 seconds of his ride.

Okay. Now wait just a second here. I just looked on the PBR website to find the name of the rider that was hung up in his rope and got the 83.something score tonight. I wrote it down when it happened, but all the scores listed on the site have changed. WTF? Did they hire Joe the Plumber to judge tonight and realized he was insane and then had to go back and adjust all the scores? I give up trying to understand. I just give up. Guilherme was in 6th place at the end of the event but now he's in first? Now, if you count all the times he's been underscored this year, I don't mind them adding them back now, but jeez give some explanation.

Anyway. What did I say somewhere in a previous post about one day JB was going to fling his bull rope and hit someone? Well. Color me wrong. That dubious honor goes to Clayton Foltyn who came off his bull, got his face smashed into the dirt, left the arena and had a total meltdown in the hallway. William said he threw his bull rope at the cameraman and shouted "Get the F#%& out of here!!!!!!!!" Perhaps that bull had a reason for smashing young Mr. Foltyn's head in the dirt.

We were very relieved to see Edimundo Gomes sitting up and looking just slightly dazed by the end of the broadcast. That looked pretty darned bad. Once again, Adriano was at the side of another downed rider just as fast as the medical staff. That man is going to be so missed.

I'm glad Ednei isn't going to retire and then again I'm not. I thought he was going to be carried out with a broken pelvis when that bull fell on him tonight. Ednei, sir I respect you but perhaps the fates were trying to give you a hint.

The rider that hung on was McKennon Wimberly.

"Guilherme was in 6th place at the end of the event but now he's in first?"

I think he was first for the round, but sixth for the event so far? Does that make sense or do I need more lessons in the new math? confused.gif

"William said he threw his bull rope at the cameraman and shouted "Get the F#%& out of here!!!!!!!!"

I saw it and was shocked, but I didn't hear him say that (I was on the phone with a friend watching it at the same time)!! That's so uncalled for. I can't say I'm crazy about the cameras following them way into the back, but that's the way it is and if they can't deal with it, then they can stay in the Challenger events. As for JB and his tantrum, he's so predictable now.

Yes, he sure is. I can see Guilherme stepping for him, though. As for Edimundo, I can't believe he got out of that with nothing more than a concussion! I thought for sure that we'd see a shoulder or collarbone injury.

On a final note: I have my reasons for liking Kasey Hayes and, even though he's not my favorite (close to the top of my list, but Guilherme holds that top spot), I like it when he does well. I'm especially pleased this time because everyone was sure he'd be done for this year after his neck injury. I hope he makes the short go and does well.

Oops! One more: Beau, my friend, you are a machine.

I told William this and we thought you must be right and we must have just misunderstood the standings they showed at the end of the event. However, I just read the press release for round 2 and it says "Marchi collected a $2,730 check and is currently sitting second in the event standings with a total of 172.5 points on two bulls." So, now I'm completely and totally confused.

William said they cut out the "F__" Yes, I agree about JB. In fact, I barely had time to call out "Okay now beat something up JB!" and he started trying to kill the fence.

Oh yes, we agree. We were glad he rode so well and made the get off without breaking anything else.

Watching him ride makes me feel like I need to get up and take 10 Aleve.

Clayton shouted "Get the" and was in the process of forming the leading "F" in his next snappy word when his "Check Career" light came on and he caught himself.

I agree the cameraman pacing the cowboy during the Amble of Shame seems invasive and is probably irritating, but TV is what is paying the bills for these guys and having a camera in your face is part of the Faustian bargain they've made.  As Shannon said, there's always the Challenger series (or the PRCA circuit rodeos) if you don't like TV cameras.

Huh. I'm confused, too.

hee! I said to my friend: "He's going to throw his helmet tonight......there he goes!"

Ha! "Check Career" light. I like that! My favorite "Career Check" moment was when Matt Bohon grabbed the chair, then slapped it shut and placed it up against the railing. I was happy to see that.

Perhaps the cameras follow some of the bucked off cowboys because they're prone to pitch hissy fits? Maybe, just maybe, if the guys would learn to take their defeats like Cord McCoy and Wiley Peterson, the cameras would just leave them alone?

And speaking of ol' Cord, he made us giggle big time last night when he got belly rolled off his bull last night. The bull leaped ten feet out of the chute and did some hop/skip/kick/belly roll thing that put Cord off so fast he didn't know what happened. In fact, when he got up and was walking away he had that "well dang what was that?" look on his grinning face. Now see, walking away and joking with everyone in the arena about a "wtf?" moment like that doesn't get you followed down the hall of shame.

Poor Guilherme. I was really hoping he'd win, but I had a feeling it was going to be Kody's weekend. I was hoping that Kasey would take it if Guilherme didn't, but second place is a really good finish.

The Brazilians took a beating! I'm glad Valdiron is ok and I hope Ednei is, too.

Speaking of Brazilians: I just read a post on the PBR message board by a poster who stated that she hopes the new Brazilian doesn't win Rookie of the Year because, even though he's won a lot of money, he literally just started on the BFTS. I don't think she was being anti-Brazilian and you know that I'm not, so I'll just say it: I'm prepared to feel really bad for Reese or Pistol, who've been battling on the BFTS all year, if they lose to a new guy who just got there. Not that he wouldn't deserve it, since the rules are as they are, but it would still be sad for them. At any rate, I wonder if this is true that he could win it. I'll have to look it up.

Two more weeks 'til the finals! Then two months off--what are we going to do? hmm.gif

I never did get time to look at the arguments for money being the most important thing in the PBR (I really need to do that), but this is, to me, exactly why it shouldn't be. You're right and you know how loudly I cheer for the Brazilians. I thought the same thing last night when the announcers mentioned Leonil (I think that was him) being in the running for ROTY. I don't think that would be fair either. Just as I don't think it was right for Ednei to be 13th in the standings and not be able to get to the finals. Just as I find it odd, but don't know enough about it to really complain, that guys can win money in the Challenger series and earn their way into the finals even if they've never won a dime in the BFTS and are below the 45th spot in the points standings.

Welp, November and December are going to be busy for me anyway. It will surely have cooled off to the point that I can stand to be outside during the daylight hours working the horses.  I have my two favorite holidays to prepare for. I also have to get back to Louisiana and bring back the stuff we decided to keep after my dad died.  I also happened to see a poster on the door of a feed store announcing "Friday Night Bullriding" out at the Rawhide arena. I'm thinking we'll have to make at least one trip out there just to see if they have any good bulls.

I was disappointed Guilherme didn't win, but what bothers me more than that, I think, was the slightly haunted look in his eyes.  I wonder if he's starting to think too hard about when he sort of came apart in the finals, though the dreaded slap decision had a certain amount to do with that.  I think my point is that losing Mohegan Sun is one thing, but if it rattles him going into the finals, it's worse than just a loss.

I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need an Xbox 360 just so I can play the new PBR bull-riding game...  I really don't...  Do I?  Well, it would go a long way toward filling the two-month void...

I didn't notice that, but I do hope you're wrong. He would be crushed if he didn't win. I personally couldn't stand it, not only because of what it would do to him, but because of the few anti-Brazilians out there who would have a field day with it and because of how it would add more fuel to the "Justin's the best" fire. Of course, I'm sure the PBR itself wouldn't be so crass as to go there, but I'm sure certain fan's would.

We have a Wii, so I asked for the video game for Christmas. biggrin.gif

Speaking of Justin, did anyone ever find out why he wasn't in Connecticut?  Think I only heard his name mentioned once by the announcers all weekend!  I thought there were rules preventing a rider from taking off as many weekends as he has recently.

I noticed that too. When he won in Oakland I watched his face carefully and it seemed like the full import of what he was about to embark on was written all over it. He had some good rides in the next events but he didn't win, and at least for me it felt like some of his edge was gone. I saw that very subtly in his eyes. To his credit, we still got that jaunty smile and thumbsup.gif

I hope the break is good for him so that he gets where he needs to be mentally and spends a lot of time with his family. It sounds like he's got a great support system and isn't afraid to ask for comfort and guidance (hey, I'm available, heh. I'm sure my sweet hub won't mind. wink)

Jaye, I think we now know why Justin wasn't in CT. He was crafting his carefully written statement of "I'm just quittin'."
