My thoughts:

After looking at the list, I'm thinking that Kody and JB are the two I'll be watching to beat Guilherme. I don't want them to, of course, but those are two really good bulls with riders who can make the 8 w/o too much difficulty--especially if they are "on".

So, we have Clayton Williams riding with a broken kneecap, Adriano riding with a broken finger and LJ's collarbone can't be completely healed yet. Ouch! What was it SQ said on her last blog? She'll felt like mainlining morphine just watching? Sounds about right to me.

Ryan Dirteater is back! I wonder if he'll put some heat on the Rookie of the Year race or if he's too far out of contention now. He certainly made things interesting this summer.

Go, Guilherme! I'll be watching him through my fingers.

I'll be pulling for Guilherme too.  Let's hope he wins by a wide margin wrapping it up early on.

I'm confused as to why Crosswired is not bucking in the first 3 rounds.  He's not in the reride pen either.  Can someone enlighten me?  He's way better than a lot of those bulls in the first round.

Having sped through the dvr recording last night (knowing I had to be up at 6am to start getting ready for an 8am soccer game) and after 6 hours of not so good sleep, I don't remember much about Round 1. Lots of great rides, JB winning the round with a great ride on Ricky Bobby (I knew we'd have to watch him and Kody), yay Guilherme!, and Renato does it again with that incredible ride! Oh, and can someone give Kasey a lesson on dismounting properly? I mean, really--does he ever land on his feet? That was too close for comfort! And Paulo! So good to see him back again and smiling.

That's about all I remember for now. Well, there was the rider that got caught in his boxers in the locker room. Because I still have 12 year old side that comes out on occasion, that got a giggle out of me. I'm pretty sure it was Reese Cates--not that I was trying to figure it out or anything because that would be wrong......

I couldn't tell who it was in the boxers, and to be honest I got all wrapped around the axle trying to resolve the "if I were a bull rider would I prefer briefs or boxers" argument.  I think by the time I concluded that I would prefer foam rubber boxers six inches thick the camera had moved on and all opportunities to determine the guy's identity were lost.

Guilherme seemed relaxed, purposeful and quite confident.  I was gratified.  His wasn't the best ride, but it was good enough that higher-scoring rides from JB and Kody won't gain them very much.  A good night, all in all.

There were several ugly dismounts last night.  Adriano went head-over-teakettle, and Kasey Hayes seems determined to test the warranty on his new fused vertebrae.

Grrrr, my DVR stopped recording right before Lostroh's ride. Luckily I was there to catch it and saw Guilherme's ride. Whew! One down, seven more to go. And yeah, Lostroh and JB look like they're riding hot right now. Dangnabit! We need this to be easy on our nerves, heh.

The round 2 draft picks haven't been posted yet--it'll be interesting to see how that goes.

Kasey Hayes drives me crazy. My best bud and I keep a "hat clock" on him when he rides and it rarely goes over 2.1 seconds. He needs to watch a slow-mo of that wreck--maybe he'll get it through his haid that he needs to wear a helmet. Colby Yates' wreck was scary, too.

Awesome camerawork throughout, especially the slo-mo after Luke Snyder's wild dismount. The expressions on all their faces--rider, fighter, bull--were fabulous. I hope they keep that on the Finals DVD (which I'm going to buy if Guilherme wins!)

How did y'all like the meeting of the Princess McBride Manlove Club? I thought JW was gonna start crying. Sheesh, Jdub, thought you were a cowboy.

I teared up when Adriano rode. I have a feeling it's the first of many.

All in all, a good bullriding night. Now if I could just lay my hands on the little creeps that egged my house last night, I'd let Copperhead Slinger have his way with 'em. Happy Halloween, phfffft.

PS: 99% sure that was Reese Cates in the boxers, and they looked to be white with red hearts. Awwww.

I thoroughly enjoyed Round 1.  What was it...32 of 49 cowboys rode their bulls?  Should help everyone's confidence level.

I was really impressed by "that little bull" Holy Smoke.  Holy cow!  He was bucking almost vertically!  Bet we'll see a lot of him next year.

I can't understand why the draft is not up yet.  Took place at 10:30 PT.  That was over 3 hours ago.  I'm extremely interested to see what the picks were to get a sense of their strategy.  I imagine McBride and J.B. will go for the hail Marys and pick the rankest bulls on the roster.  I could be wrong, of course, but I see Guilherme playing it a little safer.  I wouldn't blame him if he did.  I'd really like to see him ride tonight, and I bet there won't be too many rides at all.

Lostroh's ride was good, as was JB's, as much as it pains me to admit it.  If it were up to me the only guy in the top eight to ride would be Guilherme, but it isn't up to me...

The camera work was pretty good, you're right, showing us everything from Luke Snyder's unnaturally perfect teeth clenched in dismay as he scrambled to get out from under his bull to the Reese Cates Boxer Moment.  Perhaps they have more camera operators than usual; heaven knows they had more commentators than usual, though sometimes I suspected that Michael Gaffney had either fallen asleep or was having a drink with a dancer - they'd call on him and there would be an embarrassing pause while he fumbled with his audio equipment.

The Justin McBride Manlove Club Meeting was pretty silly.  Gaffney was probably closest to the truth when he described it as "Justin's decision", but I thought JW was going to burst into tears, or scribble an acidic entry into his diary or something.  At one point it almost sounded like Ty Murray and JW Hart were going to MAKE Justin keep riding.  How could they do that?  Kidnap his tree stand and refuse to give it back until he rode another season?

I'm looking forward to tonight.  As I've said before, I don't want to see anybody get hurt - not really.  But I do love a rowdy, rank pen that produces riding percentages in the vicinity of 30%.  Maybe I shouldn't be so enthusiastic because there was at least one serious concussion last night and a couple of probable concussions, and that was on the pen of spinners.  (Curiously enough, the fact that I've had a serious concussion - a set of oxyacetylene cutting torch tanks fell on my head once - makes me feel as though I have something in common with the cowboys.)

I knew he'd pick Bones, too, and if he rides him, he'll win the round. As for Guilherme and Copperhead Slinger, I know he'll take some flak for it, but I don't blame him--he needs to play it smart. He knows he can ride CS and get a good score on him, so why not?

As for the whole round: What a list of bulls! Wow! Can't wait to watch tonight.

Kaptain Mors, your whole post had me laughing myself silly. biggrin.gif

The Princess McBride Manlove Club?????!!!! LOL LOL LOL!!!!! rofl.gif

I particularly liked Kody's dismount. I don't know if he was trying to ride the bull fighter or if the bull fighter decided he'd just cut to the chase and start catching the cowboys from now on, but that one's got to be in the final cut of the DVD.

I missed the whole first half of tonight's round so I'm gonna run pop a dvd in the machine to tape the replay. I don't know how much longer I can keep my eyes open tonight but...

SO FAR SO GOOD!!

OH and I too think that Guilherme picking Copperhead Slinger was a real smart move.  I was hoping he'd pick that bull and not try to be a hero.

Wonder if Justin will come out of retirement if he doesn't get Bones ridden before the end of the finals... oh... no... I will not think that... bad thought, bad thought.

I don't think that Justin will go that far, but I see him drafting the bull again and again (whenever possible) until he rides him. He's retiring and isn't in contention for the buckle, so he doesn't have anything to lose. What a better way to go out than by riding an unridden bull of the year contender at the finals. Ty already said that if he rides Bones, look for another record-breaking (or close to it) score.
