Robotic farmhouse helper

When we first moved into the "farmhouse", I bought a low end Roomba and loved it. I loved it even though it lost it's little mind and I had to return it within 4 months. I still loved it when I had to return that one two months later because it too had suffered a stroke. I loved that one even though 4 months later it too suffered some kind of brain damage. I contacted iRobot and they sent me a handy dandy little plug-in, computerized, brain surgeon that updated my Roomba Red and disengaged the little synapse that kept telling it that it's wheels were dirty. I still love that Roomba even though it no longer vacuums in a straight line, is prone to circling aimlessly on occasion and gets caught in carpet strings.

Yesterday, I went out and bought the new improved Roomba which is supposed to have technology that prevents previous Roomba issues.

Here's the model (they're much cheaper at Target):

A neighbor of mine has had this model for about 6 months and hasn't had a sign of a problem yet. Of course, that neighbor only has one small, short haired dog inside, where we have 2 dust mop dogs and two profusely shedding cats. She does have horses and a horseman husband though so he's got to count for at least one profusely shedding cat.

Anyway, I set the new Roomba loose in the great room about 2 hours ago and I've only had to dump it's newer, larger dust bin once, and boy was it crammed full of filth! It's still going strong too, although I did notice that it's little green light was beginning to turn amber about 10 minutes ago so I'll have to recharge it soon. I'll probably be kind to it and blow the dust out of it with the air compressor just to be on the safe side. The package says it only needs that cleaning every three uses, but the package doesn't know the farmhouse.

The great room looks cleaner than it ever does after running the big vacuum, so I'm a happy camper. I turn the Roomba loose one day and run my floor cleaner the next. If this one suffers a stroke I'll just plant the old red Roomba in there with it and between the two of them, I still won't have to vacuum biggrin
