RE: The Riders

omg. I didn't think it would ever happen.

SHANNON! You'll be thrilled. JB is no longer my least liked bull rider.

Jaye, you've done it. You've given me a new bottom feeder on the list of bull riders I don't like at all.

I've got no use for people who kill off what remaining predators we have. To me, there are very few good reasons to kill off predators.

1. While in the actual act of saving a livestock or pet animal that is being attacked.

2. While in the actual act of saving a human being that is being attacked.

3. If that predator is seriously ill or injured.

"Fun" isn't in the equation. I'll be sending "break your neck" vibes everytime the b a s t a r d redneck climbs on a bull next year.

Wow. Put Kody on my list, too.

I grew up with people who hunted for food (not trophy hunting), so I can understand that and while they enjoyed being in the woods and were happy when they got their deer, they certainly didn't take pleasure in the actual killing.

Killing for "fun" or sport simply turns me off.

I've read two other things from Kody that had me not caring for him, but this is the final straw.

Lostroh

What surprised me about that thread on the lion video was that even some experienced hunters were sickened by it.

One hunter mentioned the fact that not only could you see the fence in the background but that the land looked like south Texas.  And there were no African guides.  He felt like it was probably an old lion turned out just before the shooting began.  Just looked like a bunch of redneck idiots out for sport.

Lostroh apologized in a way to those who did not like the video.  He thought it was "intense" especially after the first shot was fired and the lion charged one of the shooters.  He first blasted the lady who had the nerve to stand up to him, but later when more of the men voiced their displeasure, he backed down.

I did not watch the entire video.  I cut it off after everyone opened fire on the lion as it was fleeing.

Later they began talking about killing mountain lions and how they tasted like pork chops.  I'm sorry, but feline meat doesn't appeal to me in the least.  However, if they're going to kill them for the fun of it, they should eat them too.

Add me to the "Say No to Lostroh" club.  Hunting in the wild for venison, duck or turkey is one thing, shooting a caged animal another. It's interesting that Cody backed off his original attitude after he started getting some negative feedback, too. I wonder if the PBR's PR machine got to him...

But, to read Kody's post, it didn't sound like a sincere apology. It sounded more like "Whatever.....sorry." >with a shrug

Well, Kody Lostroh went to the top of my least favorite rider category today.  Sometimes I don't know why I belong to the Breeders Connection board because of their lack of compassion, but there are times I do learn something there.  However yesterday, Lostroh posted a video of some idiots shooting a lion.  You could see a fence in the background too, and initially the lion tried to walk away.  The dumbasses couldn't shoot the side of a barn, and it took a lot of shots to bring it down.  I actually had nightmares about this video last night.

One member stood up to Kody on this, and he let her have it in a very sarcastic way.  Then he boasted about his upcoming trip to hunt mountain lions in New Mexico.

It's one thing to kill an animal for food or protection, but to kill animals just to experience the "rush" sounds demented to me.  Also considering how few lions remain in the wild, it seems just plain wrong.

I saw film of a canned hunt in Texas once.  They turned some kind of big cat out of a cage (I want to say it was a leopard, but it was probably a mountain lion) and the cat immediatley hid under one of their trucks.  So they hunkered down and shot it to ribbons while it was hiding under the truck!  Then the Great White Hunter posed with the dead cat as though shooting it was a wonderful thing.

I've got nothing against hunting in a general sense, but this wasn't hunting, this was just killing.  And if Kody Lostroh thinks that this sort of thing is acceptable, I've got news for him.  The PBR is a business, first and foremost, and they'll soon enough realize that this sort of Neolithic craziness is bad for business, and they'll either re-educate him or send him packing.

As for me, I'm going to become much more vocal about my belief that he often hooks his spurs in his bull rope coming out of the chute.  I've seen him do it too many times (and not be disqualified) for it to be random.

This is exactly what I was saying in another post. I've always been of the opinion that if you want to be in the public eye, you are a role model and you need to keep your nose clean. Saying/doing things at a private function among family and trusted friends is fine--that's none of our business--but in a public forum? Try to remember who and where you are and who might be watching you.

It's one reason why I'm glad JB Mauney made his MySpace page private.

It must be difficult to be a celebrity and realize that one has to take active measures to defend your privacy, or to at the very least make it very clear when one is speaking as an individual (JB Mauney speaking his own mind) and when one is speaking as a representative of a public entity (JB Mauney speaking on behalf of the PBR or Jack Daniels or whoever sponsors him).

One of the (very few) advantages of being a generic shmoe is that nobody really cares what I say, or where I say it!  I have privacy simply because nobody has any interest in peeling aside the veil and exclaiming "Crap!  He really is a wierdo!"
