Talk about random things here that either don't fit under one specific topic or won't generate enough interest for a whole thread of it's own.
I saw this on the news and thought it was great as well as amusing and had to share it. I think you'll all appreciate it:
There is a small town where there have been problems with teenagers blaring their music and violating the noise ordinance. Normally, the punishment was a $40 fine, but the kids didn't care and thus weren't learning anything. So, what did the judge do? He changed the fine to 1 hour, in a room, listening to many different kinds of music. The lesson? We don't subject you to our music, so why should we be subjected to yours? They showed footage of a bunch of bored teenagers dressed in hip hop clothing, rock and roll clothing, rap clothing........listening to selections from Barney, Sesame Street (Elmo singing a rock song!), Barry Manilow, the Tennessee Waltz, etc, etc.
I love this! It made me giggle and I'm sure it's much more effective than the monetary fine.
LOL I love that idea. "Let the punishment fit the crime." I don't think one hour was long enough though. Maybe 3 hours would have done it hehehe.
I'm glad the judge thought of doing that rather than just imposing a fine. If a kid doesn't have an income, where's he going to get fine money? Most of the time it's the parents that get stuck with the tab so of course the kid doesn't learn a thing. That business of "making the parents responsible" is just punishing the parents for something beyond their control, at least until they make duct taping the kid to a bed post legal

New computers are very cool. Learning them when they don't come with documentation is a p.i.t.a. Getting all the stuff off the old computer and loading it onto the new computer is little short of h e l l.
I had to figure out where the heck my files are on the new computer before I could even begin to move files from my old 'puter to their new home. There is not ONE thing in Vista that looks remotely like XP so finding where things are on the new 'puter has been like an Easter Egg Hunt on 10,000 acres of forested land.

We braved the Black Friday (black for the books of retailers, black for the mood of the shoppers) about 6 years ago. We stood in a line about 1/2 mile long to get into Best Buy for two computers. We got in the back of that 1/2 mile long line at 4 am. The doors did not open until 7am. We had coffee. By the time we got in the store, got our computers and got into the checkout line, my teeth were floating and I was about to start crying yellow tears. It was an utterly miserable experience for computers that didn't last more than two years. No amount of discount was worth it. All we have to do is hear the words "Black Friday Sale at..." and we don't care where it's "at" or what it's for, we get chills down our spines and fight a wave of nausea (I personally feel a sudden urge to go pee).
Is anyone else planning to grab a deal tomorrow, gotten a great deal in the past, or had an equally horrid experience?
Meeting one of Kap's ex-co-workers in the line and having him ask if I was Kap's mother was icing on the cake on our black experience.

I used to do Black Friday sales when my kids were little. The other moms and I would do scouting trips at the local Target on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving ("they have Red Power Rangers, but not White or Pink!"), read the bazillion newspaper ads Thursday morning, then line up the next day with all the crazy-zees at 6 am. The cool thing about this particular Target was the "care packages" they handed out to all the shoppers, full of samples, coupons and things like Tylenol for those late-day shopping headaches. Smart marketing!
But now that my kids are grown, I can drink lotsa wine on Thanksgiving night and then sleep in the next morning, blissfully unaware of the mile-long line at Best Buy or whatever store has the latest hot item. If only there were bulls to watch instead of more football...
Yeah boy. It scares me to think that we're not even to December yet and still have over a month to go before more bull riding. Today at the in-law family Thanksgiving football was on. About all I could contribute to the football conversation was that Adriano Moraes had just completed his last season competing in the PBR with a broken finger on his riding hand while I'd just read that some "pansy-a s sed football player" was out for the rest of the season with a broken finger. Regular sports "heroes" might be worth at least 1/10th of what they're paid if they'd cowboy up. Can you imagine a bull rider just automatically making 5 million a year and laying out for 4 months with a broken pinky? Some things just boggle my mind.

OMG!! I kid you not, Jean--I contributed the same exact thing to my football loving inlaws and friends yesterday during the Dallas game.
Where is everyone? How is everyone? Busy with the holidays?
I'm going out of my mind!! Things are way too rushed this year and I feel like I don't have time to breathe. I know if I can make it to the 23, when my folks get here, everything will be great, but between now and the 21st? Pure insanity. And when you're OCD like me, insanity isn't a welcome thing
On the flip side, I am finding a couple of minutes every night (usually while waiting for something to boil while making dinner) to step outside and check out the moon and the planets. I don't think I've ever seen anything more beautiful than the moon, Jupiter and Venus in the past few days. I could sit out and look at them all evening. I hope you've all had a chance to check them out.
I also hope you are all enjoying the holiday season. I'm sure I will be eventually
I found a great website you might want to check out:
http://www.engrish.com
It consists of photos taken of various things, like signs or menus, that are mainly in Japanese with the English translation underneath. Whoever made up the sign or whatever doesn't know English very well, and the translations are hilarious. Here is an example:
